Abstract: The essay analyzes a myth, specifi cally the myth of the shadow in all its textual facets. In fact, since the ancient mythology, the shadow as a fi gurative and narrative expedient has been adopted in many works. These literary, lyrical, pictorial, photographic and cinematographic pieces are coloured, through the shadow, by a remarkable symbolic strength. Among few examples, the choosen one refers to a 1941 fi lm noir, “The kiss of the panther”, which suggests, with the theoretical support of semiotics, philosophy and psychoanalysis (cited widely in the fi lm), how strongly the encounter of cinema, myth and shadow generates powerful creative impulses. For example, though the savy choice of the luministic effects in the movie, which reinforce the opposition light / darkness, the shadow accentuates the obliquity of many elements, not only of those related to the psyche of the characters. All in line with the Jungian theories in terms of Shadow and archetype.
